Q1.What is
CPU ? Explain the functionalities of various parts of CPU.
Ans:
A central processing unit (CPU), also called
a central processor or main processor.
Central
Processing Unit (CPU) consists of the following features −
- CPU is
considered as the brain of the computer.
- CPU
performs all types of data processing operations.
- It
stores data, intermediate results, and instructions (program).
- It
controls the operation of all parts of the computer.
CPU
itself has following three components.
- Memory
or Storage Unit
- Control
Unit
- ALU(Arithmetic Logic Unit)
Memory or Storage Unit
· It stores all the data and the instructions required for processing.
· It stores intermediate results of processing.
· It stores the final results of processing before these results are released to an output device.
· All inputs and outputs are transmitted through the main memory.
Control Unit
· It is responsible for controlling the transfer of data and instructions among other units of a computer.
· It manages and coordinates all the units of the computer.
· It obtains the instructions from the memory, interprets them, and directs the operation of the computer.
· It communicates with Input/Output devices for transfer of data or results from storage.
· It does not process or store data.
ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit)
· This unit consists of two subsections namely,
· Arithmetic Section
· Logic Section
· Arithmetic Section
· Function of arithmetic section is to perform arithmetic operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. All complex operations are done by making repetitive use of the above operations.
· Logic Section
· Function of logic section is to perform logic operations such as comparing, selecting, matching, and merging of data.
2.Describe the various parts of computer with block diagram
Ans: A computer can process data, pictures, sound and graphics. They can solve highly complicated problems quickly and accurately. A computer as shown in Fig. performs basically five major computer operations or functions irrespective of their size and make. These are
1) it accepts data or instructions by way of input
2) it stores data,
3) it can process data as required by the user,
4) it gives results in the form of output, and
5) it controls all operations inside a computer.
We discuss below each of these ComputerQ-3.What is MIS ? Describe MIS structure of information needed to take decision of an organization.
Ans: MIS is the acronym for Management Information Systems. MIS is the use of information technology, people, and business processes to record, store and process data to produce information that decision makers can use to make day to day decisions.
Components of MIS
The major components of a typical management information system are;
- People – people who use the information system
- Data – the data that the information system records
- Business Procedures – procedures put in place on how to record, store
and analyze data
- Hardware – these include servers, workstations, networking
equipment, printers, etc.
- Software – these are programs used to handle the data. These include programs such as spreadsheet programs, database software, etc.
Transaction Processing Systems (TPS)
This type of information system is used to record the day to day transactions of a business. An example of a Transaction Processing System is a Point of Sale (POS) system. A POS system is used to record the daily sales.
Management Information Systems (MIS)
Management Information Systems are used to guide tactic managers to make semi-structured decisions. The output from the transaction processing system is used as input to the MIS system.
Decision Support Systems (DSS)
Decision support systems are used by top level managers to make semi-structured decisions. The output from the Management Information System is used as input to the decision support system.DSS systems also get data input from external sources such as current market forces, competition, etc.
Q-4.What is computer Network ?
Ans: A computer network is a set of computers connected together for the purpose of sharing resources. The most common resource shared today is connection to the Internet. Other shared resources can include a printer or a file server.
Q-5.What is meant by the link in case of network ?
Q-6.What is the difference between file and folder ?
Ans:
BASIS FOR COMPARISON
FILE
FOLDER
Basic
Collection of data
A place to store a group of related files and folders
Extensions
Files can have extensions.
Folders does not have any extensions.
Space consumption
There is a specific size of a file.
Folder does not consume space in the memory.
Organizations
Serial, sequential, indexed sequential and direct file organizations.
Single directory per user and multiple directory per user organization.
Can contain other same entity
No
Yes
Q-7.What is necessity of DBMS ?
Ans: A Data Base Management System is a system software for easy, efficient and reliable data processing and management. It can be used for:
· Creation of a database.
· Retrieval of information from the database.
· Updating the database.
· Managing a database.
Popular DBMS Software
Here, is the list of some popular DBMS system:
- MySQL
- Microsoft Access
- Oracle
- PostgreSQL
- dBASE
- FoxPro
- SQLite
- IBM DB2
- LibreOffice Base
- MariaDB
- Microsoft SQL Server etc.
A database management system is important because it manages data efficiently and allows users to perform multiple tasks with ease.
· Processing Queries and Object Management
· Improved data sharing.
· Improved data security.
· Better data integration.
· Minimized data inconsistency.
· Improved data access.
· Improved decision making.
· Increased end-user productivity.
· Efficient memory management and indexing
· Controlling redundancy and inconsistency
Q-8.What do you meant by 32 bit microprocessor ?
Ans:A 32 bit microprocessor can process data and memory addresses that are represented by 32bits.
32-bit, in computer systems, refers to the number of bits that can be transmitted or processed in parallel
examples of processors with 32-bit architecture would be the 80386, 80486, and Pentium etc.
Q-9.What is the unit of measurement for printing speed of dot matrix and laser printers ?
Ans: Unit of measurement for printing speed of dot matrix is CPS (Characters Per Second)
Speed of Laser Printer is measured in PPM (Pages Per Minute)
- MySQL
- People – people who use the information system
